What do I do if my recordable CD is defective?
Problems with optical media can occur for a multitude of reasons. Although we encourage our customers to return product that appears to be troublesome, a thorough analysis of the product must be conducted before a product evaluation can be deduced.
Consumer CD-R/RW discs:
- Consumer CD-Rs and CD-RWs come with a limited lifetime warranty, which we offer due to the high quality and reliability of our media products. TDK Life on Record makes every effort to check each batch of products that we produce.
- A TDK Life on Record product that is defective in materials and workmanship will be replaced free of charge when it is returned to TDK
- If we find that the product is non-defective in materials and/or workmanship, then they will be returned to you
- Before sending your recordable CDs to TDK, please make sure the firmware on the CD burner and the recording software is updated. Often a CD burner needs to be updated to be compatible with newer CD-R media. Updating is done via upgrading the firmware. Please contact the manufacturer of your burner for further assistance.
- Also, if you're using an older, slower speed CD burner, we suggest purchasing the lowest speed media available. Conversely, if you are using a newer, faster CD burner, we suggest using higher speed CD-Rs.
Recording to High Speed CD-RW Media:
- To determine if your CD burner can record to high speed CD-RW media, check the bezel (faceplate) of your recorder
- If the words “High Speed” are printed on the bezel, then you will be able to record onto high speed CD-RW media.
- If the words “High Speed” are not printed on the bezel, then you will only be able to record low speed CD-RW media.
- Typically, the model number of the drive can also give you an indication if the recorder can record to high speed CD-RW media.
- Ex: 12/10/32 In this example, the 12 is the write speed (up to 12x w/CD-R discs), the 10 is the rewrite speed (up to 10x w/ High Speed CD-RW discs), and the 32 is the read speed (32x read back w/CD-ROM discs, Commercial CDs, etc).
